An Overview Of Deciding On Essential Factors In Solar Generator Home Sault Ste Marie
During a recent Downtown Development Authority meeting, the Sault’s application process was discussed. The National Register Historic District allows for all of the Sault’s downtown to be classified by the National Park Service as a Historic District. There are roughly 100 buildings that could qualify. “There’s no restrictions placed on the buildings when they’re put into the National Register Historic District,” said DDA Director Justin Knepper. “But there’s a tremendous amount of marketing opportunities.” The biggest of those opportunities, according to Knepper, is the chance for buildings to receive a federal tax historic tax credit. The buildings will have to undergo a certified historic rehabilitation to qualify. The buildings likely would see an increase in heritage tourism as well. The DDA, with assistance from the Chippewa County Historical Society and Bayliss Public Library, received a grant for $50,000 to cover the costs of the application process. The grant was funded through State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). “They (SHPO) chose Sault Ste. Marie with two other cities. They only pick three every few years. We got kind of lucky to be chosen,” said the DDA director. “We had a really strong application. They hired a guy named Bill Rutter, a consultant, who’s done six different districts.” Rutter lives in Trout Lake and owns the national register-listed Birch Lodge. He’s recently completed work in Escanaba to get their historic downtown registered.
